The quarter mile Riverhead Raceway asphalt oval is home to several races such as the Enduros, Blunderbusts, Figure-8's, Super Pro Trucks, Car Roll Over Contest, and many other special events.  Every Labor Day comes time for the Monster Trucks, and 2001 was no different except that it was a little lame compared to performances past, such as the awesome 1999 and 2000 shows, where it was raining during both years.  All I can say is that the rain must be a plus when it comes to having three Monster Trucks doing a Freestyle Exhibition on already crushed cars.  Anyway, the day was beautiful and clear, and still there were a few good jumps by the performers.  The Monster Trucks in attendance were:

Bearfoot driven by Doyle Schmidt

Demon driven by Rich Blackburne and

WWF The Rock driven by Chris "Moon Dawg" Guzman

Monster Truck Freestyle

Demon

First out was Rich Blackburne in Demon.  Rich had torn off the tailgate the previous night, but nothing like that today.  Rich was able to get some good jumps in Demon, getting some air and some nice bounces off of the cars, but nothing too spectacular.

WWF The Rock

Chris had also planted his tailgate in the cars the previous night, but nothing close today.  Chris had also lost his brakes the previous night, and was taking it a bit easy, but still was able to catch some of the best jumps of the day, including getting a great wheelstand and air all in one, and pogo-ing the truck off the cars and taking out the only uncrushed car brought out to crush.  Then, Chris got an idea.  By the two lamp posts inside the dirt sections of the track there were dead demo derby cars scattered around from the previous nights demo derby, and Chris decided to drive up on one, and the crowd got a kick out of it.  Overall Chris was able to do a pretty good job considering what he had to deal with.

Bearfoot

Doyle had struggled late in the previous night and all the morning to fix a shock problem, and was able to make it out just in time for intros.  Doyle made three jumps before dying on the cars, as it looked like the transmission went away.

Overall this Monster Truck Show was more highlighted by the car races that surrounded it, but it wasn't a total bum.  Thanks for reading and watching!
